OUR STORY

The first church building in the city of Los Angeles was erected somewhere in the vicinity of what is now the corner of Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. (formerly Sunset Blvd.) and North Broadway Avenue. A chapel some 1,400 square feet begun in 1784 continued in used until December 8, 1822 when the church in its present site was dedicated in honor of Our Lady Queen of Angels. In the 1840’s the church was extensively remodeled. The history of the Old Plaza Church buildings properly depicts a constantly changing scenario. A history reflects the vey dynamism of the Gospel as the only reason for their existence. The reason for changes and restoration of these buildings have not always been aesthetic. More importantly these changes have been motivated by the needs of the people they are intended to serve.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to live the words of Jesus: “I want to have life and have it more abundantly.” This mission is made possible in Placita by celebrating the sacramental life to make everyone feel accompanied by the grace of God in its various facets of life.
